Thank you for a smooth parking lot transition!
Good evening,
The first week of the new parking lot procedure has been very smooth. Although, it is less convenient than in years past, most everyone has seen that closing the lot to through traffic during the times students and parents are using the parking lot most is in the best interest of pedestrians.
Thank you again for your cooperation!

Parent Coffee March 22nd
There was a lot of learning going on at the parent coffee this morning! Michele Arterberry, our English Language Support Teacher (ELST), presented information on the eight Thinking Maps that our staff have taught the students this year. Today, we focused on the Flow Map which helps with the thinking process of SEQUENCE. We demonstrated how to do one, did one together and then had the parents do one on their own. Parents then were shown how to take the information from the Flow Map and create a two to three paragraph essay from it.
Thinking Maps is a school wide program we have taken on. Ask your child's teacher about it! Your kids are doing great things with the maps. We will demonstrate another map at future meetings.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jenkins-Martin

Supervision
Hello Parents,
We would appreciate your remembering that there is no campus supervision at Johnson before 8:30 a.m. Unless your child is in the 6 to 6 program or you have VERIFIED that they are meeting with a teacher for tutoring or in a club, students should not be here before that time.
After school, students should head directly home or to the auditorium if they ride the bus. Again, unless they are in the above programs or are with a teacher, the campus should be cleared by 3:50 p.m. Please make sure that your child knows the plan for getting home from you before they arrive at school. This avoids unnecessary traffic in the office.
Thank you,

Parent Coffee, January 25, 2011
Today at the parent coffee, our ELST Mrs. Arterberry, shared with the group information about the importance of attendance for both Native English speakers and English Language Learners. She talked about the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) process and how children who have excessive absences or tardies may be referred to this organization. The purpose of this process is to make sure that students are in compliance with the attendance laws. Last week, Johnson had a only 406/526 students here at school AND on time. That's only a 77% attendance and promptness rate. We can do better. The school goal is 97% or better!!
The principal then shared information about the district budget situation. She shared with the parents the budget information specific to Johnson Elementary and its' students. The parents had great questions and had great ideas for how to keep Johnson a STEM focused school in the years ahead.
Parents interested in volunteering in the morning at running club from 8:30-8:55, please contact the school office for more information.
